A story-making workshop with poet and artist Sophie Herxheimer and writer Marina Warner, drawing on memories and imagination.
Join poet and artist Sophie Herxheimer and writer Marina Warner in this story-making workshop - and, if you can, bring something to share. Drawing on memories and imagination. We shall share these ‘dream stones’ and – possibly - create a collective story. Sophie and Marina ask participants to bring something (maybe a pebble or a favourite object) to help them respond and weave story magic as participants exchange ideas and they shape a story in words or images.
This workshop’s collective storytelling process relates to the activities of Stories in Transit, a project that both Marina and Sophie are involved in. Stories in Transit runs story-making and -telling workshops with displaced people, emphasising the importance of imaginative play as a powerful means of communication and nourishment. Similarly, Sophie has been working on a project collecting a vast amount of stories from members of the public by listening and drawing them live on the spot. Marina’s newest book, Inventory of a Life Mislaid: An Unreliable Memoir (Harper Collins, 2021) features a wonderful array of cut out illustrations by Sophie.
