Sophie Herxheimer and Karen McCarthy Woolf
Migration Museum
What happens when home becomes somewhere you don’t recognise, whether through war or economic forces beyond your control?
In 2015 The National Maritime Museum welcomed two (second generation immigrant) Londoners: poet Karen McCarthy Woolf and artist/poet Sophie Herxheimer, to take up residence in their RE.THINK space, and make work in and out of conversation with visitors, on the theme of migration.
Despite being friends already, Sophie and Karen were unaware that they would both be working at the museum at the same time. A collaboration seemed a natural, even inevitable, next step!
VOYAGE is the fruit of this idea.
